Autograph Letter Signed, “Albert R. Whitney”, 4p. octavo, September 11, 1863, Manassas Junction, on fine and rare handcolored Magnus letter sheet titled “UNFURL THE GLORIOUS BANNER”, with scene of Washington crossing the Delaware and poem. Whitney enlisted on August 11, 1862 and was mustered into the 1st New York Dragoons, he was taken POW on May 1, 1864, and mustered out on June 30, 1865. The letter reads in part: “...we are now in a large field about one mile from the Old bull run battle field...I am on guard duty to day, so I shall yet rid of being detailed every five minutes for something or an other...” More on supplies and camp news. Some light soiling else VG. A fine Magnus patriotic lettersheet.
