October 1, 1861, "TO THE LOYAL WOMEN OF AMERICA," Sanitary Commission, Washington, D.C., Choice Extremely Fine. 10" x 8," four-page document, integral leaf. Addressed to the women of America, this document details the creation of a "volunteer and unpaid bureau of the War Department": the Sanitary Commission, which was established to serve the sick wounded of the war. Very interesting content, endorsed in print by "A. Lincoln" and "Winfield Scott." Lightly toned, with normal folds.
