Ambrose P. Burnside, by J.C. Buttre, NY, Fine. 12.5" x 10", consisting of of a 9" x 8" portrait of Burnside in uniform, surrounded by a border designed by Wm. Momberger of vignettes from the Civil War. From a photograph by Matthew B. Brady. In gray and white tones, except for Burnside's blue and gold jacket, and a red, white, and blue shield surrounded by pale green laurel leaves. In the lower border, "Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside, U.S.V." A large water stain in the upper right corner covers the vignette but does not touch Burnside; a 1" piece torn from the upper right corner could be covered by framing. A nice portrait of the bushy side-burned Burnside.
