Manuscript Document Signed, "Wm. Hughs," Invoice Receipt for the "Crying" Fee on a Negro Slave, (likely Lincoln County, Kentucky), February 17th 1826, 2-1/4" x 7-1/2" by William Montgomery [as agent] to Thomas Young, for the estate of Dr. James Thompson deceased, who has charged 50 Cents, for the "Crying" (Auctioneering) Fee service in hiring out a Negro Slave the prior January. This being the official receipt, Signed by William Hughs. It is very nicely written and easily readable in brown ink on very clean period wove paper, being also noted on the reverse as "Recorded." This item said by the prior owner to have been with a group of documents from Lincoln County, KY. Fine condition. A very rare receipt for an agent's fee in transacting the service for this Slave.
