An authentic issue of the The Liberator, Boston, March 13, 1840, 4pp, disbound, slightly tanned, lightly foxed, VG. From the back page running 1/2 column “The Slave Trade” provides a list “of American vessels engaged in the slave trade on the West Coast of Africa during the spring and summer of 1839 ...” In part we list several examples, “The Venus of Baltimore ... sailed in April with 860 slaves on board ... The Traveller, a Baltimore schooner ... sailed in May with a full cargo of slaves .... The Hugh Boyle of Baltimore ... sailed in the Soring with 120 slaves ... The Mary Ann Cassard ... she was taken with more than two hundred slaves ... The Victoria of New Orleans ... sailed with about 400 slaves ...”
