Pair of Documents pertaining to William Fehrenz, Co. "B" 149th New York Infantry, who enlisted on August 29, 1862 and was mustered into Co. "B" on September 18, 1862. He was promoted to 2nd Lieut by Brevet and mustered out on June 12, 1865 at Bladensburg, Maryland. Includes: Enlistment Form, 2 pages, quarto, Syracuse, New York, August 29, 1862, for Fehrenz, and is signed by the Examining Surgeon, and the Recruiting Officer. Interesting is that Michael Fehrenz, the father of William signs the verso giving his consent for his son to enlist, this was typically done only if the enlisting soldier was a minor. Document is VG...plus; Volunteer Descriptive List and Account of Pay and Clothing for William Ferhenz, stating the dates of his last pay period and the last time his clothing account was settled. Signed by Captain Jacob Knapp, in Atlanta, Georgia, November 8, 1864. VG. (2 items)At Gettysburg the 149th participated in the defense of Culp's Hill, made by Greene's brigade. At Lookout Mountain, they captured 5 flags while fighting under Hooker. The regiment started on the Atlanta Campaign with 380 fighting men, of whom 136 were killed or wounded before reaching Atlanta.
