ROBINSON, "Jackie" Roosevelt (1919-1972). Baseball player, civil rights activist. His major legue debut game on April 15, 1947, marked the first time an African-American athlete played in the major leagues. 1935 school yearbook, John Muir Technical High School of Pasadena, California, autographed by Jackie Robinson on page 149. Then a sophomore, he signed the book "Jack Robinson" in fountain pen on the white space near the baseball team picture (he was shortstop). This is the earliest signature of Robinson we have seen. Also signed by his older brother Matthew Mack Robinson, as a senior. The following year Matthew won a silver medal in the 200-meter dash, just behind Jesse Owens, at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
