Autograph Letter Signed, “Gold T. Curtis” Captain 5th Minnesota Infantry, 3p. octavo, Merchants Hotel, St. Paul, April 29, 1862, with cover addressed to his wife, in part: “... I am down here after a few men, having had the misfortune to have four ‘mustered out’ including Mrs. Wests two boys. Its all right as I shall get god men in their places. Houston has been in arrest (simply a guard at the door outside) for a day or two charged with having locked up an old Norwegian who had come down to take away a couple of his boys...It is rumored that Capt. Sanders is ordered to provide transportation for the ‘5th Regt.’ right after our Regt. shall ahve been paid off...” Fine. Curtis was commissioned captain the day after this letter was written.
