A great collection of over fifty (50), ca. 1845, Anderson District, South Carolina magistrate court documents related to the official constable duties of magistrate H. H. Wardlaw. Included in the lot is a ca. 1845, 1p. large folio, manuscript court document for assault and battery, "on [a] free woman of colour" in which James Lelford is to appear before the magistrate and "…made an oath in due form of law and saith that he hath just and good reasons to believe that [blank]…did commit an Assault and Battery on the body of [blank] a free woman of colour…". This group also includes a number of partly-printed documents. Content ranges from simple debt collection to issue of summons for assault and battery. Condition varies, overall VG.
