Autograph Letter Signed, Thomas Keefe, U.S. Ship Vincennes, Ship Island, Gulf Squadron, November 12, 1862, on patriotic stationary, it reads in part: “...I have always felt a desire to learn and know something about he drama and to become an Actor. I know it is not so easy that I will be one without trying far from it. I am prepared for the hardships and trials that an Actor is exposed to before he can be qualified for the duties he will be subjected to in the course of his profession....relying upon your kindnes and influence to assist me in obtaining a situation in a Theater or a traveling dramatic company no matter how low or small the station may be...I have been in the Navy 18 months and I am in hopes of going home next spring...” VG.
