Autograph Letter Signed, "Edwin Parsons" who was a Savannah merchant before the war, 2p. quarto, Lafayette House, Atlanta, Georgia, October 9, 1865, addressed to former Confederate "Genl. B.J. Hill" and reads in most part: "...I have rented this house it is 4 houses nearer the Depot than Mr. Silveys that you lived in Quintard to open our hotel and any friends or yourself if coming to this city, I shall be happy to see. The federals robbed me of almost everything in Columbus and I shall feel obliged if you will offer my land to be sold at public or private sale for cash as you may think best. I do not know but hope as Greenbacks are so plenty in Tennessee it will bring a good price....I will give you a little news as to the progress of this city. There are at this time 150 stores now building and it is said there are 50 more doing business then before the fire ...They are paying $2 to $5 dollars per day for brick layers and carpenters in fact any number could get employment..." Fine. Benjamin Jefferson Hill (1825-1880) Commissioned Colonel of the 5th Tennessee Infantry Regiment on September 11, 1861. Hill rose to the rank of brigadier general on November 20, 1864. Commended by General's P.G.T. Beauregard, Cleburne, and Daniel Harvey Hill for his distinguished service. Wounded three times at the Battle of Richmond, Kentucky, Hill continued to lead his troops. He would later serve in Hood's Tennessee campaign and ride with General Nathan Bedford Forrest in 1865.
