Autograph Letter Signed, Edward R. Hood, 4p. octavo, Camp on the Rapphannock, December 15, 1862, with cover addressed to his sister in NYC, it reads in part: “...we have been o nthe move almost every day since we left hagerstown.. We stopped three weeks at Aquia Creek...the third we went on picket (our regiment) and our Division moved here...we crossed the river...went to the front ...stayed there all day. Our Company had five wounded, none dangerous. The same on that was wounded at Savage Station. On my right was wounded...and on my left but it was not my time, so I was spared. The Regiment lost killed and wounded 100 we were relieved from supporting a bettery this morning. We lay on the bank of the river...the firing has been kept up most of the time since last Thursday morning...but a few guns fired today...The men havent as much confidence in Burnside as in McC. this battle will make a great difference in their opnion...” VG.
