War-date Union soldier's letter, 4p. 8vo., written by Corp. George P. Jarvis [WIA Perryville, Ky., Oct. 8, 1862], (signed Geo.), Co. C, 3rd Ohio Vols., Corinth, Miss., May 18, 1863, concerning the capture of the 3rd near Rome, Georgia on May 3, 1863 while part of Gen. Steight's Raid into northern Georgia, in part: "…our entire Regt is captured with the exception of the twenty two that are here…they will…be paroled and go to Columbus…Corinth is not the most pleasant place in the world…Gen. [Grenville] Dodge has telegraphed to Gen. Rosecrans for information in regard to what we will do and expects a reply tomorrow. I hope we will be sent north. There is only about twenty of us left that are not captured and I do not think they will separate us from our command…". The original transmittal cover is included. VG
