A good war-date collection of twenty (20) Union soldier's letters written by Private Edward N. Steers, Co. F, 3rd Rhode Island Heavy Artillery. Content includes the usual camp life commentary, troop movements throughout Georgia and South Carolina, the advance on Charleston and its hoped for captured, along with some rather racy commentaries on the local women and of how he would like to be taken care of sexually. These letters (some on patriotic stationery) date from April 1862 through April 1863 and were written from Fort Pulaski, Tybee Island, North Edisto, S. C. and "Camp Stephen Olney, South Carolina." Nearly all the postally used transmittal covers are included, including one nice Charles Magnus State of Rhode Island cover. The 3rd Rhode Island Heavy Artillery took part in the capture of Fort Pulaski and participated in the battles of James Island and Pocotaligo, S. C. Overall VG to near fine.
