War-date map on linen, 24-3/4”x22-1/2” issued by the “U.S. Coast Survey Office A.D. Bache. Supt. 1863” of the Confederate territories of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and West Florida. Detailing all the major rail road lines, the various rivers, towns, turnpikes, and waterways, and prominently displaying the key ports of Mobile, New Orleans and Pensacola. Paper map mounted on linen with hard back covers when folded, as used in the field. Fine condition. Alexander Dallas Bache (July 19, 1806 – February 17, 1867) was an American physicist, scientist and surveyor who erected coastal fortifications and conducted a detailed survey mapping of the United States coastline.
