War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Rufus R. Blackington, Co. I., 20th Maine Vols., "Camp near Culpeper Court House, Va., Nov. 4, 1863, in part: "…we are in camp now and get fix up in good shape…we stripe the Rebel's houses to make tents with. Don't you think that is too bad. We stripe as nice houses as Tim Williams house. They have mahogany doors…but don't make any odds with us. If we want bed cloths we take them…the boys went in a house where a old negro wench [lives] and was going to take a quilt and she told him that she was going to be confined and he left…". VG
