Vols., "Camped on Black River at Reave's Station, Mo., April 15, 1862," in part: "…the talk is ow that Little Rock is ours but it is hard to tell…the old Sutler just returned from St. Louis this evening and brought…a lot of stamps. I got a half of a dollar worth…there was quite a ruff thing took place in camp…one of the 33 Illinois boys stole a revolver from one of the lieutenants. They took him and shaved one side of his head and turned his coat round side out and wrote on the back thief…then they drummed him out of camp. It was a ruff way to get a discharge…". The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Kirkpatrick's phonetic spelling has been corrected. Mild toning effecting crease, else VG.
