War-date Union soldier’s Autograph Letter Signed “Frank Marshall” Co. E & H, 104th Ohio Infantry, 3pp. octavo, Camp Burnside, Indianapolis, Indiana, January 13, 1864, and reads in part: “...I am well as usual and am on guard every fourth day...There was one of the rebs got out the other night. He made a ladder out of some boards & when the guards was walking back to back he ran out of the barracks & set it up against the fence & over he went. one of the guards said he saw just as he was going over the fence & did not shoot. The guard was arrested for not shooting & is in the guard house now. The guards was on the inside of the fence there on the account of its being too cold to stand on the platform. The Major said he is going to have that guard shot if there is any law to do it...I got your letter that the 104th was in the battle at Knoxville....” Fine condition.
