Cabinet card photograph of St. Michael's Church, in Charleston, South Carolina, c. 1890, with short list of important dates and events pertaining to the church, such as being shelled by the British during the Revolutionary War and by the Federals during the War Between the States. Mount has some loss, image is Fine. St. Michael's Episcopal Church is an historic Episcopal church and the oldest surviving religious structure in Charleston, South Carolina. It is located at Broad and Meeting streets on one of the Four Corners of the Law, and represents ecclesiastical law. It was built in the 1750s by order of the South Carolina Assembly. In 1865 during the Federal bombardment of the city, a shell burst near the chancel. A scar is still to be seen at the base of the pulpit. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark. It is still an active church in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina.
