Rare variant of Lincoln's Cooper Union speech, 16pp., light water mark on last seven pages, not listed in Monaghan, fine. Known as the speech that catapulted Lincoln to the White House, this pamphlet contains Lincoln's speech given in February 1860, along with another speech given by John Hickman, Republican Congressman from Pennsylvania, given in Philadelphia in July 1860. His speech pertains to political issues and the Presidential candidates. On the back page is a quote from Stephen Douglas, Lincoln's 1858 senatorial and 1860 Presidential opponent, regarding the Dres Scott decision. There is also a quote from Douglas's Vice Presidential candidate Herschel Johnson containing Douglas content. A rare 1860 campaign pamphlet, and the first example of this scarce variant we have seen.
