1862 War Dated Letter from the Chief Quartermaster of the Army of the Potomac, NY, Choice Very Fine. Autograph Letter Signed "Stewart" [Van Vliet] on embossed, fine-laid paper, June 1862, Fifth Avenue Hotel, NY, 8" x 5", 3 pages on integral sheet. Includes original "Fifth Avenue Hotel" embossed envelope, addressed to "Mrs. S. Van Vliet", and postmarked. Van Vliet, who was appointed Brig. General of Volunteers in August 1861, after serving as Chief Quartermaster of the Army of the Potomac, writes a personal letter to his wife, in a scrawling hand. Lightly toned page, small tear to back page near fold.
