Bound collection of Congressional speeches, mostly 1845-1847, pertaining to the Mexican War and the territorial expansion of slavery, compiled and signed on free end paper by Thomas A.D. Fessenden (1826-1868)was a U.S. Representative from Maine, the son of abolitionist legislator Samuel Fessenden, and brother of Treasury Secretary William P. Fessenden and congressman Samuel C. Fessenden. He was an uncle of Union Army generals Francis Fessenden and James D. Fessenden. This collection of congressional imprints, is bound in 1/2 morocco & marbled boards, octavo, and contains approximately fifty (50) 29th Congress speeches, with many of the speakers autographs mounted on the last page. Includes the autographs of Andrew Johnson, John C. Calhoun, David Wilmot, Hannibal Hamlin, Alexander Stephens, R.B. Rhett. J.A. Seddon, Seaborn Jones, John Berrien , F. W. Bowdon, Col. Hilliard of Alabama, Andrew Pickens Butler, Alexander D. Sims, and many others. A nice piece of political Americana. Fine condition.
