Autograph Letter Signed, “Mattland Kennedy & Co.” 3pp. quarto, New York, April 12, 1841, pertaining to the death of President Harrison who died after only a month in office, and reads in part: “...Business of every kind is much depressed - and the currency of all the states south of this in a miserable condition - the death of the President who is succeeded by Mr. Tyler of Virga. will tend to retard some of the measures intended to relieve our present embarassments, only those likely to be of permanent benefit to the country are likely to find favour with Mr. T. & there will now be much prudent caution in conductin the affairs of the Nation...” Fine. Tyler quickly became a man without a party. A Democrat who ran on the Whig ticket, he vetoed nearly every Bill sent to him.
