An 1866 election year Salt River ticket issued by Pennsylvania Radical Republicans opposed to President Andrew Johnson. The campaign that year was between supporters and opponents of Johnson. The president made his infamous "trip around the circle" that year seeking to defeat his Congressional opponents. Seward and Wells, holdovers from the Lincoln cabinet, were considered traitors to the GOP. The Radicals swept the election and promptly moved to impeach Johnson. This graphic 4" x 5 3/4" piece also compares Johnson to Confederate President Jefferson Davis. A exceedingly rare Salt River political piece.
