Marine Corps grouping pertaining to Howard R. McCleery, includes: ROOSEVELT, Franklin (1182-1945) commonly known by his initials FDR, was an American statesman and political leader who served as the 32nd President of the United States. A Democrat, he was elected four times and served from March 1933 to his death in April 1945. He was a central figure in world events during the mid-20th century, leading the United States during a time of worldwide economic depression and total war. A dominant leader of the Democratic Party, he built a New Deal Coalition that realigned American politics after 1932, as his New Deal domestic policies defined American liberalism for the middle third of the 20th century. Document Signed “Franklin D. Roosevelt” as Acting Secretary of War, 1pp. 16’x20, August 1, 1919, appointing McCleery as Assistant Dental Surgeon in the Navy with rank of lieutenant junior grade. Paper seal damaged, else fine condition....plus; ROOSEVELT, Theodore III (known as Jr.) (1887-1944) was an American political and business leader, a veteran of both the World Wars, who was awarded the Medal of Honor. He was the eldest son of President Theodore Roosevelt and Edith Roosevelt. Document Signed “Theodore Roosevelt” as Acting Secretary of the War, 1pp. 16’x20”, August 15, 1921, appointing McCleery as him a “Passed Assistant Dental Surgeon in the Navy.” Fine condition...plus; DANIELS, Josephus (1862-1948) was a newspaper editor and publisher from North Carolina who was appointed by United States President Woodrow Wilson to serve as Secretary of the Navy during World War I. He was also a close friend and supporter of President Franklin Roosevelt and served as his Ambassador to Mexico, 1933-41. Document Signed “Josephus Daniels” as Secretaryof the Navy, 1pp. 16”x20”, March 17, 1918, appointing Howard McCleery as Dental Surgeon in the Navy. Fine condition....plus; BARNETT, George (1859-1930) was the 12th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps. He was the U.S. Marine Commandant during American involvement in World War I. Document Signed”George Barnett” as Major General Commandant, 1pp. 10-1/2”x18-1/2”, certifying that McCleery performed “honorable active service in the U.S. Marine Corps from October 21, 1918 to March 2, 1920.” Fine condition.
