March 13, 1856, "Kansas Contested Election," A Speech by Hon. S. A. Purviance of Pennsylvania, 7-page pamphlet of a speech delivered in the House of Representatives. 9" x 5.5". Purviance proclaims that:"The purity of the ballot-box should be uppermost in the hearts of all true American patriots." and "If the places of election are to be invaded, the voters put in fear and driven from the ground, the voice of the people is lost and buried in the despotism which overwhelms it." Fine condition. This is a wonderful speech about patriotism and justice served to those who put democracy in jeopardy. There is a small tear on the mid-bottom left side of the pages. The first page is separated but otherwise the pamphlet is intact and has a clean, pleasing appearance.
