A good war-date Florida Civil War document being a field printed version of General Orders, No. 19, 1 1/2pp. 8vo., "Headquarters, District of Florida, Fourth Separate Brigade D. S., Jacksonville, Fla., May 9, 1865," reading, in part: "…before a military commission, which convened at Jacksonville, Fla…were arraigned and tried:- 1. Washington Cook, colored civilian. Charge-Theft…prompted a boy Andrew Givens to steal from one Wilson, a merchant in Fernandina, the sum of $900.00…in specie, and about $1300.00…in bills…on or about the 2d day of April, 1865…finding…not guilty…2. Andrew Given, colored civilian. Charge-theft…that he…did steal from one Wilson, a merchant in Fernandina, the sum of about $900.00…in specie and about $1300.00…in bills…the accused pleaded 'guilty'…the commission do therefore sentence him…to be confined at hard labor for one year…3. Elizabeth Andrews, (colored). Charge-receiving of stolen money…that Elizabeth Andrews…received from one Andrew Givens [The amount stolen by Givens]…knowing it was stolen money, secreted it, and denied all knowledge of it when a search was made…the evidence adduced, find the accused…guilty…to be confined at hard labor for one year…in the cases of Andrew Givens and Elizabeth Anders…the sentences will be carried into effect at Fort Marion, St. Augustine, Florida…by order of Brig. Gen. I. Vodges…". Issued and signed in type by Capt. S. L. McHenry and signed in manuscript making the document official by 1st Lt. George C. Peck (of the 17th Conn. who was WIA and POW Chancellorsville) as post adjutant, St. Augustine, Florida. From the headquarters files of Col. William H. Noble 17th Conn. Vols. who were stationed at Jacksonville from late February through the middle of April 1864 and were stationed at St. Augustine after that to the end of the war. Signed at the top indicating it was given to Major Henry Allen of the 17th Connecticut Vols. who was WIA at Gettysburg. Overall VG .
