A complete and authenticate issue of the New York Daily Tribune, July 4, 1854, 8pp., disbound, VG. From an interior page, “Public Reception of Stephen Pembroke, Latey a Slave” runs 9” and reports the reception of fomer fugitive slave Pembroke. Pembroke ahd escaped his Maryland master May1st, was quickly captured and reditioned back to Maryland. Stephen Pembroke was purchased for $1000 and brought back to New York. “Dr. Pennington (colored) then read the receipt for $1000 given by Jacob Grove in full purchase of 1 negro slave named Stephen Pembroke.”
