A complete and authenticate issue of the New York Daily Tribune, April 4, 1854, 8pp., disbound, VG. From an interior page, “The Fugitive Slave Case in Auburn” runs 14” and reports on fugitive slave George Washington who was rescued. in part “In the morning several hundred quiet, peaceable looking citizens stood within hailing distance .... and was rescued amid loud acclaimations from a large collection of his colored friends ... the business of hunting men and women as mere chattels may still be legitimate in the semi barbarous slave states where hounds are employed ...” Although not named, Harriet Tubman was involved in this rescue.
