Autograph Letter Signed of George Worthington, 2p. octavo, Washington, D.C., May 27, 1863, and reads in part: “...Your letter, together with your horse claim, and five dollars, has been received, and you will please accept my thanks for all of these favors, especially for the last, for which a liberal deduction will be made on final settlement. Our notion as to ‘full fees’ accord exactly, and as to the old General, whose influence at Washington you dread, I have fought successfully many battles against him and some kindred officers here, such as General Meaness and Injustice, and hope not to be conquered by any of them...Major Atkinson, the 3rd Auditor, who rejects horse claims, is however, a worse General than either of these, and, indeed, combine in his own person the most qualities of all but I have not hesitated to beard this lion in his den...it will be the greatest victory of the war for Union officers, and they should shower down upon one more ‘full fees’ than I ever expect to see....” VG.
