HARDIE, James Allen (1823-1876) He served on Gen. McClellan's staff during the Peninsular and Maryland campaigns, and on the staff of Gen. Burnside in the battles around Fredericksburg. He was made judge advocate-general on Gen. Hooker's staff when that general succeeded Burnside, and for his services and conduct was made brigadier-general of volunteers.Printed Letter Signed, “Jas. A. Hardie” 1p. quarto, June 4, 1863, Washington, Adjutant General’s Office, addressed to Brig. Genl. John M. Thayer (1820-1896) and reads in part: “...I forward herewith a copy of your commission of Brigadier General your receipt and acceptance of which will please acknowledge without delay...” VG.
