A good early war-date Confederate letterpress broadside/poem, 1p., measuring approximately 4" x 5 1/2", published at Baltimore, [MD], Oct. 16, 1861, entitled: "ATTENTION," written by an anonymous Southern poet. The six stanza poem, reads, in part: "Hearken, friends and foes…see Abe Lincoln's prospects darken: Though Abe tried the south to frighten…Abe swears for Richmond he'll advance. We swear to lead him a sweet dance…we'll drive the untiring Yankee hog. Before at Richmond he arrives…still will the Southrons not turn back. Kill all their men and then the night…cast aside each craven fear. For "Death of Freedom!" is the cry…forward Freemen to the fight, strike home! you'll find God's for the right!…". Near fine
