“CONVENTION SECESSION” 3” x 4-1/2”, printed both sides with small paper loss at bottom right. On the face are familiar secession advocates, Marcus J. Wright, Humphrey R. Bate, D.M. Currin, and Solon Borland. On the reverse, an illustrated cotton bale with “The South, and Our Firesides.” Though Tennessee was much divided in her sentiment she was only slowly growing in the spirit of secession. All those names were in favor of the Secession Convention and later served ijn the Confederacy. Humphrey R. Bate, later a captain in TN 2nd Infantry; Marcus Wright, later a Confederate general in the American Civil War; Solon Borlan, as a newspaperman, soldier, diplomat, Democratic United States Senator from the State of Arkansas and a Confederate officer during the American Civil War; D.M. Currin, served in the First and Second Confederate Congresses from 1862 until his death in Richmond, Virginia, March 25, 1864.
