A rare war-date infantry tactics manual owned by Pvt. Alonzo Mace, Co. I, 5th New York (Duryee's Zouaves) Vols., being the"U. S. Infantry Tactics for the Instruction, Exercise and Maneuvers of the UNITED STATES INFANTRY." Authorized by the Secretary of War, May 1, 1861, 450pp., published by J. B. Lippincott & Co., Philadelphia, 1862, inscribed on the inside cover: "Alonzo Mace, Washington, D. C." Mace enlisted in the Duryee's Zouaves on July 5, 1861 at New York City, and no doubt acquired this book, in early 1862, while he and the rest of McClellan's army trained in the capitol city preparing for their epic invasion of the South. Near fine with expected wear with all the foldouts and plates peasant.
