Large Broadside measuring 9” x 20", Printed by Thayer & Co. of Boston, MA, contemporary to the original which was issued somewhere in the South. Thayer reprinted this piece to give Northerners a taste of the shocking views held by Southerners. He wrote, in part: "Of its genuineness there can be no doubt; and believing it will be read with deep interest by thousands in the loyal States, we here re-publish it and here present a perfect fac-simile of the original... Those who desire to know what reason our erring brethren in the disaffected States can assign for taking up arms against the government may learn by reading this paper... Let this paper be carefully read, and however much we may feel disposed to blame our Southern brethren for what we believe to be their madness and folly in taking up arms against the government, we must give them credit for having here given a very lucid statement of their reasons for doing so."
