Autograph Letter Signed, “Hugh Campbell” 1p. octavo, January 8, 1862, St. Louis, addressed to General Halleck, it reads in part: “...I beg leave to inclose an order dated ‘Head Quarters, Kansas City, Mo. published by order of Majr. Wilhelm Drumhiller or Wm. Drumhiller in which he orders flags to be suspeded over the Altars of the Methodist & Presbt. churches. This Majr. and his Sergt. Majr. must be very remarkable men. They have found an artcile of furnitrue (an alter) that does not belong to either church! How then cna the order be obeyed? May I beg that you will cause this crusade against the church of my fathers to be discontinued. Already two Presbyterian ministers have been bannished from this city and one congregation broken up - without a word or act of disloyalty!...” VG.
