Autograph Letter Signed, “Almon Wellman” 10th New York Heavy Artillery, 4p. octavo, January 4, 1863, Fort Baker, Washington, D.C., and reads in part: “... we was whipped at Fredericksburg and I think that we never can whip them. We will have to settle it some other way than fighting them for they are too much for us...I have got a ring that I shall send you that I maid of laurel root [not present]. I have made a great many of them and sold them for one shilling a piece...” VG.
