B, 160th New York Vols., Thibodeaux, [La.], Jan. 19, 1863, in part: "…our regiment has been in one battle, killed 2, wounded not any in our company…they drove the rebels & took 40 prisoners. The rebels blew up the gunboat Cotton. It was a splendid boat. It cost 120,000 dollars. It is quite a loss for the rebels. The prisoners look hard. Some of them had on women's petticoats & straw hats…a good many of them barefooted. They don't have nothing but Indian pudding & molasses to eat.
