War-date Union soldier's letter, 3pp. 8vo., written on patriotic stationery, by Pvt. Ephraim W. Frost [POW Winchester, Va., 6/13/63; WIA Piedmont, Va., 6/05/64 & DOD 1/15/65], Co. I, 116th Ohio Vols., "Camp Union", Sept. 6, 1862, in part: "…I went to the court house to hear Colonel Mulligan speak. He is a good speaker…the captain says we are ordered to Gallipolis [Ohio] in the morning. I would like to had my uniform before we went…Mart Markafe shot his rite finger off up to the first joint yesterday evening. That will send him for soldiering…by candlelight. We have orders to…be ready to march 5 o'clock in the morning…". VG . Also included is Frost's first letter home written, in pencil, on August 29, 1862. It is too light for us to transcribe, but perhaps YOU can read it.
