War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. folio, written by Pvt. Ephraim W. Frost [POW Winchester, Va., 6/13/63; WIA Piedmont, Va., 6/05/64 & DOD 1/15/65], Co. I, 116th Ohio Vols., "in camp near Gallipolis, Oct. 14, 1862," in part: "…Miss. Sherman was down here for awhile. She was down here to see Hap. He came up to Parkersburg and enlisted. He went to Pomeroy and got his arm broke someway…while he was gone. [Oct. 15]…they had us draw forty rounds of cartridges today…Asher Buckley, Frank Baron, Jesse Burton was sent into an artillery company. One of the Athens boys went home on furlow and shot himself in the foot. It is thought he done it on purpose to get a discharge…we are under General Milroy at present…". VG
