I, 116th Ohio Vols., Romney, (West) Va., Mar. 6, 1863, in part: "…in the morning we took the road towards Moorefield. We went to Burlington a distance about 11 miles and when we got out there we found out that thare was…going to be a raid…they thought that Captain [John Hanson] McNeill was…going to come out and take the citizens horses and that was what we was sent out thare for…but they did not come…we was pretty well worn out…".
