War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 4to., written by Corp. George P. Jarvis [WIA Perryville, Ky., Oct. 8, 1862], Co. C, 3rd Ohio Vols., Chattanooga, Tenn., Oct. 3, 1863, in small part: "…our whole division train was captured yesterday morning while returning from Stevenson with forage. We have now only one wagon to each Regt. They got about 200…teams belonging to our division and all the teams of the 1st & 3rd division too. In all about five or six hundred. They did not burn them up and hopes are entertained that they will be recaptured…there is a report…this morning…that a part of them are recaptured already…".
