Jarvis [WIA Perryville, Ky., Oct. 8, 1862], 18th Ohio Vols., Chattanooga, Tenn., May 7, 1864, in part: "…the board of examiners [of officers for colored troops] has quit. Col. Grosvenor in his anxiety to get to the front, when he found he could not be allowed to take his Regt. accepted the position of A. D. C. to Genl. Turchin…there is a new board organized and I shall continue to clerk for it…I saw Genl. Sickles a few days since. He is a fine looking man if he has but one leg…". VG
