A good war-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Andrew H. Frame, Co. A, 35th Mass. Vols., Crab Orchard, Ky. Sept.15, 1863, to his friend Mary Lucy Tenney of Byfield, Mass., in part: "…I was detailed out of the Regt to drive a six mule team and we are to start to move…for East Tennessee which is 230 miles from this present place. It will take about 18 days…we can not travel more than 20 miles per day…very rough roads to that. I shall like to take those six mule team and pass down through Byfield. It would fairly scare the folks to see such a team…it is very hard work…we are going out to east Tennessee to clear the state [of] Rebels and hope we will prosper…". Also included are two original transmittal covers. One is the letter's original while the other is addressed to him at "Convalescent Camp Hospital, Hickman Bridge, Kentucky."
