A great Union soldier's Confederate related souvenir picked up by Pvt. William A. Clark, Co. C, 17th Connecticut while setting up camp somewhere in Northern Virginia. The date and location of this souvenir's find is unknown, but what we do know is that Clark inscribed the verso of an unused Union patriotic envelope, featuring "The Girl I Left Behind Me" theme, in part: "…this letter I found in a rebel house that our folks tore down to use for a quarter masters quarters [to] store things in. W. A. Clark." Contained in the envelope is the original doubled sided letter that was sent from Upperville, Virginia in 1839 by a certain "L. H. Saunders" and appears to be of routine family matters. The letter is toned with fold separations and one lower section missing, the cover is also in worn and toned condition. Overall VG for being a not-so-well cared for Union soldier souvenir.
