War-date Union soldier's letter, 10pp. 8vo., written by Sgt. Gustavus B. Williams (signed Gustavus), Co. K, 51st Mass. Vols., Foster barracks, New Bern, N. C., Feb. 11, 1863, asking again for her to approach Gov. Andrew for his discharge, fears of Rebel attack and, in small part: "…JohnCollar of E…[and] one Knet of that Co. died on the march after twenty four hours sickness of congestive chills. Its disease now [that is] very prevalent in the regiment, some seven or eight deaths shaving occurred and a hundred or two on the sick list…which a soldier must dread rather than the Rebels…". VG
