War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Sgt. Gustavus B. Williams (signed Gustavus), Co. K, 51st Mass. Vols., Evan's Mills, N. C., April 15,1863, in part: "…Edward [letter] dated 8th…says that he is about starting for Hooker's army where a great battle is expected. He writes that the Copperheads in CT are woefully defeated and that Missouri has gone "Radical Abolition." I suppose she has signified her wish to become a free state…". VG
