War-date ink inscribed Union soldier’s 4pp. folio, letter by Pvt. Wallace Hobart “Queen St. Branch 3rd Division General Hospital, Alexandria, Va., Aug. 21, 1863”concerning his experiences during the war, in part: “…I have been in nine battles and several skirmishes…I was hit by a piece of a shell on the arm at the last battle of Bull Run…laid me up for six weeks…I enlisted on the fifteenth day of October 1861…I landed in Virginia and have been…in this state every since except when we went into Maryland after Lee…when I enlisted I enlisted for the 7th Regiment…there was a chance given to all that wanted…to be transferred to a battery of artillery…I got transferred to the artillery…the 7th Ohio…arrived…last Sunday. They are on their way…to enforce the draft…they will now bring out 300,000 more men…my battery was in the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg…I have not been with the battery since last December…I am in this hospital [as] a nurse…”. Usual fold splits, and soiling, else very good.
