A good war-date Florida Civil War document being a field printed version of General Orders, No. 33, 1p. 8vo., "Headquarters, District of Florida, Dept. of the South, Jacksonville, Fla., May 19, 1864", reading, in part: "The approach of the season when sickness is most to be apprehended renders it a matter of the utmost importance that the Sanitary Regulations of the District should be strictly…enforced…the Provost Marshal…will…enforce among all citizens within the limits of their authority all sanitary regulations. Every householder will be required to keep his own premises in perfect order…refusal to comply with this order will be met with prompt…punishment…all personal cleanliness is urgently recommended as the surest safeguard against disease…soldiers and citizens are called upon to lead a willing co-operation…". Issued and signed in type by order of Brig. Gen. GEO. H. GORDON. Signed at the top indicating it was given to Major Henry Allen of the 17th Connecticut Vols. who was WIA at Gettysburg. Overall VG .
