The National Police Gazette (NYC) was America's oldest illustrated weekly newspaper, publishing a sixteen page woodcut illustrated newspaper slanted to the sensational crime. Each issue covered in text and images of sorted murders, outrages (rape), adultery, as well as updates of sports. Certainly the manly newspaper of its day. We will describe one image/report for each of the four issues included in this group. This group includes, September 21, 1878, A 1/4 page illustration shows a man about to be lynched in a barn.
